Musket Ridge GC5played on Monday 7/23/07. This course is in excellent shape. There were a couple of small areas on the greens that were in repair and you could move your ball if you needed to. Musket Ridge makes you think, and it has many risk reward shots if you have the guts to gamble a little bit. The only time water comes into play is on the BLUE number 1. A utility club, or 3 wood is all you need on this downhill 394 yard par 4. The hole that will really test your game is the Par 5 BLue number 6. The Tee Shot, and the layup yardage are no big deal. However, the 3rd shot will either kill your score card, or if you are lucky you will leave the green knowing that making Par here is like making a birdie. The only way to score on this hole is to put your shot on the Green in 3. You cannot be short middle to Right front, or long because the false front and back will put your ball in very tall grass where it will probably end up being a lost ball. There is a Bunker protecting the front Left, and if you hit it there consider it a very lucky golf break and take advantage of your fortune. On the Back nine, Number'd Ridge 1-9. Take advantage of the Ridge number 1 (Par 5). It is very reachable with a Good Drive. Favor the Right hand side on your 2nd or 3rd shots because there are 3 bunkers protecting this hole on the left hand side. Ridge number 2 (Back Nine again), is another Risk/Reward hole. If you can hit a Good Power Draw, the Par 4 is reachable from the Tee Box. My ball landed in the Front side Bunker and I made par from there. However if you go to far on the inside left the hill does slope down to the tree line and you may have another lost ball problem. Ridge number 3 is a Par 5 and listed at 474 yards and doglegs right to left. Again, if you can hit a good Power Draw, you can reach this Par 5 in two shots. The rest of the holes coming in are pretty basic, and the course is very scenic. Be aware that in some bunkers the sand in the middle flat areas are pretty thin...and has no more than a 1/2 inches of Sand in the bottom areas of these bunkers. The Driver can be used on 10 of the 18 holes. I Rate this course a 5, since the course presents many different options for alot of players. 7/26/2007kphipps
