Swan Point Golf Club4After shooting a 12, 12, 8 over a three hole Water Stretch at Stonewall and missing the cut...The sadistic side of me decided I would scout the next wormburners venue "Swan Point". After about an hour and 20 minutes on the road from Manassas, Billy Cobb and I pulled in to a very nice facility. Paid 59 for a 1220 tee time Sunday 6/30/07 and off we went. Now if you like WATER, and lots of it..This is your Course. Actually with a yardage book in hand it wasn't too bad...But if you have not played it .. the 5 dollar yardage book is well worth the cost, and will really help you manage your way around the course and save you a few strokes. I was working on some fade cut Driver, hybrid and 3 wood shots at the range...and the work really helped me out on the front nine. We played from the BLUE Tees that play about 6400 yards. It helps if you can work the ball left to right on number 2, 4, and 9. Number 2 is a real tester and the only shot is to take it across the marsh as much as possible because the bail out area to the right hand side puts you too far away on your second to this very difficult par 4. On hole number 4 the card says that a huge tee shot will make this par 5 reachable in two... But if you don't want to wreck your score card fling the ball in the fairway with a three wood and find a good layup area for the 2nd shot. The 3rd shot should get you a nice 8 or 9 iron to and Island green. Did I say I made Par on this hole...Wheew...Well...I double bogeyed the Ninth with a couple of bad pitch shots and had a 43 on the front ..and damn well proud of it too... But then the course decided it would own me on the back....and it did...There are two back to back Par 3's (Number 11 and 12) On both of them all you can see are the greens....It's all Marsh in front.... While it looks intimidating...there are bail out areas on the right side...Trust your swing and get it over on the right somewhere...Then you get to the Par 4 13th... The Carry is over the Marsh...And this hole must have been designed by the Devil. The carry is only 160 but the Marsh Reeds are extremely high...and if you hit your driver with a low trajectory you will catch them... Take a safe hybrid here...or a 5 or 3 wood...There is also OB on the right side near some houses...So basically you have to hit it to the left side over as much marsh as you can...Well I am getting winded here...and I did blow up the back with a 51...But I left the course with a lot of knowledge on how to play it next time...and as of this review the greens were very slow....I just hope the upocoming beer and Barbeque will take the edge off of a very tough Venue "Swan Point".
